Let me start this post by saying I LOVE running. I really do. I just suck at it. For a myriad of reasons (including my miniature height, being extremely *ahem* top heavy, and pitifully out of shape), I don’t run well. But I still love doing it. I have the heart of a runner. I hear stupid theme songs like Eye of the Tiger in my head as my feet hit the pavement. And if anyone asks me, I proudly tell them of my love for running. But the truth is, I am a far cry from actually BEING a runner. I may have the heart FOR it, but I don’t have the conditioning. And one thing I’ve learned about running is that you can train to do it, but just like most muscles that get weaker when you don’t flex them, the fitness you get from running decreases with time if you don’t get off your arse.
That being said, I’m inviting you to join me as I try to ACTUALLY become a runner. I’m starting out slow, and I’m using the assistance of a new app I found called Personal Running Trainer. I really do plan on making myself a true runner, but to get there I have to morph from the out of shape chubby chick, which basically means I’m starting at the bottom.
Today, I began my journey with the first “training run” on the app. I selected the Run 1 Mile trainer first, figuring I have to start somewhere, and that seems like a pretty basic place to start. Considering it is August. In Florida. Only crazy people start a running routine in August in Florida. So I suppose I am crazy. But guess what…I DID IT! I did my little walk/jog routine after I put my little guy on the bus this morning. And I was a PROUD, hot and sweaty mess! Next workout is in two days. And I’m already excited about it! : )
